It's Back-to-School for the Transitions Program
| DREAM News - Press Room |
DREAM, Inc is excited to be coordinating the Hinds County Senior Transitions Program for the third consecutive year. This federally funded program has gained recognition for, among other things, providing students with a cash incentive for completing the program. This year’s participants include Clinton High School, Hinds Agricultural High School, Raymond High School, and Terry High School.
In August, recruitment started and student response has been overwhelming. This month, the Transitions Team will begin to conduct monthly workshops at each school. These workshops cover work readiness skills and are taught by community volunteers. Past volunteers have included politicians, lawyers, businessmen, and other community leaders. DREAM’s Board President, Dr. Alfred Martin, Jr., and Vice President, Attorney Barry K. Jones, have presented to the students in the past.
Martin says, "Any time you can offer high school student real life experiences on work, finances or their education, is an investment to our future. These students are our future and it is up to us to offer whatever we can to help them achieve success!"
The Hinds County Senior Transition Program is sponsored by the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District. If you know any seniors at the schools listed above, or are interested in volunteering to speak at one of these schools, please contact us at (601) 933-9199.
